Mukteshwar - India
On the mountain heights, several picturesque temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva, much venerated in the mountains. The most famous lies in the nearby town of Mukteshwar.
At the western end of the Mukteshwar hill lies the grandiose Indian Veterinary Research Institute and its British Raj era architecture and atmosphere. The bungalow where JIm Corbett famously stayed during his hunt for the "Mukteshwar Man Eater" offers some of the best HImalayan views in Uttarakhand.
Further afield, our team can organise excursions to the Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve and to the Hill Station lake towns of Nainital, Bhimtal, Sattal and Naukuchiyatal.
To the north, take the historical transhumance route to Almora, the Chand Rajas' 16th century capital of Kumaon, and explore the 7th century shikara temples of Jageshwar and the Surya (sun) temple of Katarmal. Discover the underground sacred caves of Patalbhubaneshwar and the riverside temple of Kapileshwar.
